Our Philosophy
Orquidea (pronounced OR-KEE-DEE-AHH) means Orchid in Spanish.
The name was chosen not only for its uniqueness but also for the characteristics of the orchid. “The orchid is a beautiful, clean lined plant. It is both modern and classic; understated yet memorable, much like our clothing collections”, says owner Maureen Elliott. “In fact, our tag line encapsulates this juxtaposition-Modern Fashion…Timeless Style”.

“We felt there was a big void in the market for clothing that is thoroughly modern yet not trendy. Beautiful quality fabrics, a great fit and a silhouette that is current and up to date but definitely not extreme. Our customers don’t want to dress like their mothers. At the same time, they don’t want to dress like their teenaged daughter. Somewhere in between is the Orquidea woman”, says Elliott.
“We work hard to find unique Canadian and European lines that are not available in department stores and that fit our customer’s lifestyle. We also do a bit of our own manufacturing of basics including a selection of great fitting pants-something every woman looks for but often can’t find”, says Elliott. “We seek to find interesting, wearable items like beautiful Italian knits that look equally fantastic with a pair of jeans or with a skirt and heels.”
