It’s finally May but we still have our fair share of April Showers. During this time, it is always a challenge to know how to dress. You’re not quite ready for your summer dresses but the winter wools just look and feel too out of season. Here are a few tips:

SHOES – When the weather is sunny, show off your pedicure in some great open toe wedges. On those rainy days, a closed toe ballet flat is the perfect choice. A metallic shade goes with everything and can be dressed up or down. Try Mamzelle’s comfort flat in metallic pewter with gold hardware. The two tone colour allows you to wear either gold or silver accessories-your choice.

PANTS – When it is too cold for a short skirt and bare legs, you sometimes need the extra coverage of a pant. Choose a Capri or skinny jean. For a fun casual look you can roll the hem of the jean into a wide cuff to turn your regular jean into a crop. Try Simon Chang’s great selection of skinny jeans and pull on crops or Henry and Belle’s bright fuschia super skinny jeggings.

TOPS and SWEATERS – Put away the winter turtlenecks and lower the neckline! Cecile Benac’s tanks are a wardrobe essential that you can wear year round! Layer on a comfy cardigan in a sheer yarn to add warmth while still being light enough to take you from spring to summer. Try Orquidea’s “summer signature” mesh cardigan in 3 great colours. It looks equally as great with jeans as it does over a simple shift dress.

COLOUR – Black and white is always right but a pop of colour always adds a Spring touch. During dreary days, you can still wear black pants (as long as they are not wool) but top them off with a bright T shirt, jacket or cardigan. The colour instantly takes your outfit from winter to spring. Try Repeat’s ¾ sleeve v-neck Tee in tangerine or azure blue or Simon Chang’s white techno jean jacket.

OUTERWEAR – It’s too cold to go jacketless and too warm for that wool winter coat-what do you do? Choose a short trench in a cotton or water resistant fabric. This style works equally well with a casual outfit as it does over a suit. Try Apanage’s water resistant tangerine trench or their black cotton version with optional tie belt.

For several seasons, fashion trends have dictated a pretty conservative colour palette. Black, Grey, Sand and Chocolate were the staples with accents of white or cream and the odd hit of colour. That has all changed!

For Spring 2012 it is all about colour! Tangerine, Coral, Fuschia, and Caribbean Blue are hitting the racks in everything from Tshirts, sweaters, dresses and even jeans.

People have been screaming for colour and finally the designers are listening!

The great thing about this season, though, is that there are many ways to wear this trend so it suits both your personality and dressing style. For a fun spring look, try colour blocking various brights from head to toe. Be as wild as you like!

Prefer a less conspicuous look? A bright print blouse or vivid T-shirt will look fantastic when teamed with basic black or white. It gives you a pop of colour without edging too far out of your comfort zone. If colour still isn’t your thing, don’t despair. You can never go wrong with black and white or layer on the neutrals – an always sophisticated combination.
Designers also seem to be relating better to their customer’s wants and needs. We lead a more casual lifestyle but still need clothing that is versatile and easy care.

Many of our customers travel and need to have items that pack well, are washable and can be easily dressed up or down. Knit and techno fabrics fit the bill and with a quick change in shoes and accessories, most outfits can move easily from day to evening.

Take a look! We’re happy to show you how to get the most out of your wardrobe!
